Summer happenings

So proud… of Dr. Mark Kubula, who during the Christus Southeast Health System annual medical staff meeting was presented with the 2022 Compassion, Excellence and Kindness Award. Kubala was recruited by the Sisters of Incarnate Word and started his work in Southeast Texas in 1966. This year, he celebrates 56 years of dedicated service with the system. His work has taken him to the highest levels of organized medicine. Standing ovation for this wonderful man and we are so lucky to have him!

Looking forward to the Wine Tasting and Appetizers Bar on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Little Bruno’s on Phelan. Yummy!

Such an honor… Pioneering Women will honor Velina Johnson, Tea Do, Melanie Moye Comeaux, Charlee Hanna-Rule, Mary Young and Charisma Popillion at their annual luncheon with the theme “Women Rockin’ and Rollin’ to Our Own Beat” on Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Holiday Inn Walden Plaza beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling (409) 842-1577. These ladies will be introduced Thursday, July 28, at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas at 5:30 p.m. So much fun!

Speaking of AMSET… The downtown museum will host Beaumont Heritage Society’s Happy Hour on Thursday, July 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Enjoy craft beer showcased by Giglio, wine, and a one-night-only showing of Florence Chambers’ artwork in the newest AMSET educational space.

Certainly enjoyed… the singing sounds of local singing sensation Hunter Courts at New York Pizza & Pasta on Calder Avenue. Thrilled with the music, menu and libations were Daphne and Charlie Dyer, Cile and Chuck Childress, Paige Windham, Kit Ohmstede, Melody and Pat Parsons, Betty Clarke and Martha and Leon Hicks. The talented vocalist will be at the MCM Eleganté this Friday evening and will return to NY Pizza & Pasta on Friday, July 22, and Friday, July 29, from 6-9 p.m. Check him out!

Excited for the curtain to rise… The Lutcher Theater, one of our crowned jewels in Southeast Texas, will begin to sell Premier Season Tickets (July 18) and single show tickets (Aug. 15) for a sensational lineup that opens Saturday, Oct. 22, with “RESPECT – The Aretha Franklin Experience.” Other phenomenal shows include Blue Man Group, “Million Dollar Quartet,” “My Fair Lady,” “The Simon and Garfunkel Story,” Voctave – an A cappella sensation, “Anastasia,” Jimmy Fortune with the Malpass Brothers and “Tootsie.” See you at the Lutcher!

Speaking of shows… Four Southeast Texas musicians have composed an original soundtrack for the celebrated 1920 silent film, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” and it will premiere at our own Jefferson Theatre on Saturday, July 23, at 7 p.m. Caden Welborn, Robert Stringer, Fatih Baha Ömeroglu and Isaiah Grande each individually scored one-quarter of the film in their own unique style. Tickets are only $5.

Showering with love… Gal pals Rita Hurt, Julie Scott, Noeline Hartel and Tina Lombardo were hosts with the mosts last weekend with a baby shower for Colleen Hartel. Showering baby Bonnie Leith were Brittney Ferguson, Allison Heare, Miranda Looney, Kellsey Fairchild, Kaitlyn Koch, Haylee Faggard, Taryn Bienvenu, Taryn King, Blair Serna, Kristin Peyton, Lauren Thieme, Julie Scott, Diana Egbert, Cindy Truax, Erin Davis, Anne Scott Lydahl, Kalah Word, Chassis Cook, Haley Schwarzlos, Hannah Coxon, Carly Shelander, Donna Ashmun and Kellsey Fairchild.

Beaumont bravo… Our city’s own Harris Covington McGrade is doing big things in La La Land. He has landed several lead roles in plays including one that received a Hollywood Fringe Award.

Happy anniversary… to Farah and Hubert Oxford IV (6 years), Sarah and Andrew Falgout (8), Danyel and Bryan Marquardt (17), Huiwen and Eddie Venable (19), Lisa and David Braneff (24), and two Golden 50-year Anniversaries – Sarah and Harrison Root, and Mary and Bernard Daleo. Felicitations!
