Red, white and you

What a bang it was… despite a damp start to the Fourth of July holiday weekend, skies cleared for our fair city to celebrate Independence Day, which started bright and early with the annual Calder Place 1929 Parade. While this year’s procession did not seem as large, it was truly reminisced of calmer and bigger families of times long ago. Participants were walking, riding their bikes, being pulled in wagons, driving golf carts, vintage cars, which were donated by the Golden Triangle Model A Club), as well flashy convertibles – off of which were celebrating red, white and blue. Judges were Ashley Cooper and John Lee, Patricia and David Moore, Dwight Moore, Courtney Horton, Melanie Leonard (also the parade coordinator), Allen Jackson and Robin Mouton. Enjoying all of the festivities were Sissy Coffin, Christy and Mike Persia, Hannah Persia Smith, Ruby Elliott, Laura and Wesley Persia, Gerald Farha, Julie Casanova, John McAtee, Nancy and Stephen McGrade, Marc McDonald, Vic Reyna, Rachel Bersin, Bridget Bersin, Jennifer and Thad Felton, Elizabeth Phelan and so many more to mention. Later that evening, the Symphony of Southeast Texas with Chelsea Tipton II conducted the symphony and were joined by the Southeast Texas Starlettes inside the Julie Rogers Theatre as a part of the City of Beaumont’s 36th annual Fourth of July Celebration. Symphony League President Kate Davis also conducted one song with the sensational Symphony. Thrilled with the patriotic performance were Amy Lovoi, Paula Lovoi, Jan Fulbright, Ken Reen, Shelly and Carl Vitanza, Allison and Mike Getz. Thousands made their way to the Event Centre Lake where dozens of food trucks lined the street. Many gathered at the stage and listened to the sounds of Curse & The Cure, Pop Gun, and a fantastic set from the Mambo Jazz Kings, all of which led up to the massive fireworks show at 9 p.m. What a fantastic job by Emily Wheeler and city staff for a superb night. Happy 4th!
