In memory of… Originally called “Decoration Day,” from the early tradition of decorating graves with flowers, wreaths and flags, Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in service to our country. Over the weekend, Kelli Maness organized a ceremony on the grounds of Magnolia Cemetery last Saturday morning. The ceremony honored those brave men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Paul Prosperic gave a history of Memorial Day and the veteran’s address speech, which was presented by Seth Wells and Bruce Hamilton, discussed the explanation of the veteran’s recognition project for the cemetery. In attendance were Jo Vance, Tom Maness, Sue Philp, Paige Windham, Karen McCormick and others. Thank you!

So many… were disappointed that the wonderful musical, “Beautiful – The Carole King Musical,” which was the season-ending event at the Lutcher Theater was cancelled due to members of the traveling cast testing positive for Covid-19. Hopefully the magnificent folks at the Lutcher will be able to reschedule this magical musical in the future!

Giddy up… Though the Kentucky Derby runs the first Saturday in May, the Pompano Club will host a “Kentucky Derby Designer Purse Bag Bingo” on Saturday, June 4, at 4:30 p.m. This luxurious event isn’t your typical designer bag bingo and is the perfect way to spend a girl's night out. There will be several opportunities to win luxurious bags as well as other prizes. This event is for the older crowd with a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. Don’t forget to show your Kentucky Derby flair for a chance to win prizes! The Pompano Club is located at 330 Twin City Highway in Port Neches.

Let’s go outside… Enjoy the McFaddin-Ward House’s beautiful grounds and live music with their free “Music in the Gardens – Jazz and Juleps” on Thursday, June 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jimmy Simmons & Friends will perform and play their jazzy, fun tunes. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, food and beverages while gathering on the historic home’s lawn at 1906 Calder Ave. Be there!
