Oh so grand
Lamar University’s 100-year Centennial LU Celebration Le Grand Bal was held last Saturday evening. Cocktails and silent art auction took place at the Dishman Museum, then guests made their way to Setzer Student Center for dinner, recognition of past chairs and dancing to the sounds of Still Cruisin’. President Emeritus Jimmy Simmons entertained with his clarinet and Interim Dean of Fine Arts Golden Wright welcomed the group and recognized past chairs Laura and Craig Escamilla, Dean Terrebonne, Kim Steinhagen, Rusty Chimeno, Charlene Babineaux, Sandra Clark, Sandy and Joseph Fertitta, Melanie Dishman, Melody Parsons, Paige Windham, Marty Craig, Patti McSpadden, Michelle and Mitch Smith, and yours truly. Hats off to Michelle and Janey Phelan for the amazing atmosphere. Color him blue… Kate Thorne was fêted for a baby shower in the anticipation of the arrival of baby Benjamin Michael last Sunday in the home of her aunt, Michelle Miller. Exciting opening… the Art Museum of Southeast Texas will present “Margaret Smithers-Crump: Kinship,” as its spring exhibition, beginning April 1-June 18. The opening reception is Friday, April 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A brief gallery talk with the artist will take place at 7:15pm. The reception is free and open to the public.
