A 36-year-old Beaumont man accused of murder was released around noon July 15 from the Jefferson County Jail after a judge reduced his $1 million bond in a writ hearing the same day.

Sunday, July 4, witnesses reported seeing Bryant Keith Thomas, the accused, in an argument with the victim, identified as 47-year-old Herbert Bendy III, at Excellent Carwash on Haden Road. The disturbance escalated at the car wash and Thomas shot Bendy, witnesses alleged.

Thomas was taken into custody and brought to the station to speak with detectives July 4. After interviewing witnesses, Thomas was transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility and booked in for murder on a $1 million bond.

That bond was reduced to $100,000, according to information from Judge Raquel West’s court, and Thomas was released July 15.
