A 19-year-old Baytown man was indicted June 2 for allegedly carrying two types of THC and psychedelic mushrooms in Beaumont last December.

According to the indictment, Trooper William Hults was patrolling Dec. 18, 2020 when he observed a Chevrolet Silverado following the car ahead too closely. The trooper initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 841 and made contact with the driver, identified as 19-year-old Baytown resident Ronald Adam Richey.

Upon opening the front passenger door, the trooper observed two THC vape cartridges in between the driver seat and the console. The contents of the cartridges were confirmed by Richey at the scene, according to the indictment. Hults then asked Richey to step out of the vehicle and placed him under arrest for possession of a controlled substance.

That’s when Richey told the trooper he was also in possession of psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana, both of which were found in his center console. Richey’s pickup was then impounded by Spanky’s Wrecker Service, and he was taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
