Two Beaumont men have been indicted on first-degree murder charges for allegedly shooting 34-year-old Willie Edwards and leaving him to die, lying on the pavement in front of a church, as they sped away.

A 911 caller told police on May 28 that a shooting victim was lying in front of the church at Steelton and Fillmore in Beaumont. Upon their arrival to the location, officers found Edwards suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

A witness at the scene oof the crime said two men, identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Charles Brewer and 17-year-old Algerreau Marquel McQueen, had both fired weapons at Edwards. McQueen reportedly fired on the victim until he “fell to the ground.” Then, the witness told police, Brewer also started shooting at Edwards. After the assault, the two men fled the scene in a black Nissan Altima with paper plates.

Police soon caught up with the two suspected murderers, and both were arrested the following day, on May 29. They are being held in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on $927,000 bonds each for the murder, and Brewer has an additional $10,000 bond for a charge of possession of dangerous drugs.
