BISD lockdowns spur security upswing

West Brook students were released from lockdown just before 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25 after a bomb threat and a reports of a student on campus with a gun were resolved.  

"Late Monday afternoon, West Brook administrators received a phone call about a bomb threat against the campus," read a release from Beaumont Independent School District Spokesperson Hannah LeTulle. "Campus administrators and the BISD police department immediately responded by initiating a lockdown while BISD police and other local law enforcement agencies BPD, Fire Marshall and ATF assessed the situation."

The campus alerted parents via the emergency call-out system advising that the campus was on lockdown and asked parents to avoid the area while the investigation was in progress. Authorities searched for a bomb and the campus was cleared.

From the release:

"However, while law enforcement was responding to the bomb threat, Crime Stoppers contacted administration with a tip indicating that a student was photographed with a weapon in the West Brook locker room. In response to the photo tip, the campus remained in lockdown while the Beaumont ISD Police Department apprehended the student identified as possessing the weapon. At the time, the student had no weapon and indicated that the firearm pictured was not real. Students were dismissed shortly thereafter and returned home. The Beaumont ISD Police Department continues to investigate the allegations of a firearm being on campus, and requests any and all students with information regarding the photo circulating social media to immediately contact 409-617-7000. 

"All students will be subject to heightened security measures at West Brook High School and Beaumont United High School effective tomorrow, October 26, 2021, including increased police presence and safety screening of all students entering the campus. Parents please be patient, as we may experience delays due to the additional safety measures."
