The Beaumont City Council and Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) Board of Trustees held a joint meeting to discuss items that are pertinent to both entities. The meetings serve as an opportunity to collaborate on initiatives that will benefit all of Beaumont.

During the meeting, council members and trustees discussed several items that included:

Sidewalk for Beaumont United High School Students

The city shared that the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) provides grants for safe walks to school. The city asked BISD to submit a defined scope of work for city staff to review regarding the sidewalks for possible consideration.

BISD and City Police Relations

Beaumont Police Chief Singletary and BISD Chief Malbrough will communicate at least four or more times monthly as it relates to the safety and security of our community and students. The two will also collaborate on additional help during dismissal, join efforts on programs such as DARE and work to address social media trends.

Beaumont Clean-Up

Mayor Robin Mouton shared information on 311 and how to report a location with trash/litter. Councilman Mike Getz suggested a district-wide poster contest to educate students about the issue of littering and the importance of keeping the Beaumont community clean. Dr. Allen requested that students be involved in city-wide clean up events.

Unified Community Engagement Plan - BMT for BISD

The District and city will collaborate on communications and form a unified effort. Together, they will create awareness with community members about joint-collaborative meetings and other opportunities.
