Those who drove by the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) on College Street Oct. 18 may have noticed the station looked a bit different. BPD took part in the Silent Witness Initiative, an effort to support the often quiet victims of domestic violence.

“This program began in 1990 in order to support victims and educate the public about domestic violence,” BPD reported. “The Red Lady exhibit represents those who have died from acts of domestic violence in the United States.

“Domestic violence is a horrible reality for many in our community - and shouldn’t be!”

If you or anyone you know is in danger of domestic abuse, contact the BPD Family Violence Unit at (409) 832-7190, Family Services of SETX (409) 833-2668, or the National Domestic Violence Hotline 800-799-7233.
