Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick issued a burn ban order Oct. 10 for all of Jefferson County, effective for 90 days.
According to order, it profits and restricts outdoor burning in all and/or part of the unincorporated areas of the county. It does not apply to outdoor burning related to public health and safety authorized by Texas Parks and Wildlife for prescribed burns.
A violation of the order is a Class C misdemeanor.
Oct. 6, Hardin County Judge Wayne McDaniel issued a declaration of disaster due to severe drought conditions, which also includes a restriction of outdoor burning. Violation of the order is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine or less.
It will continue no more than seven day unless renewed or continued by Commissioners Court.
Burn bans are active in Jasper, Tyler and Sabine counties. The National Weather Service in Lake Charles reported there’s a slight chance of rain on Wednesday or Thursday, Oct. 12 and 13.
