A man on bond for charges of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old and impregnating the young girl has fled to Mexico amid a conviction for the aggravated sexual assault of the child.

Dadiel Albelo, 50, was indicted for the child rape in 2019, but after more than three years of the accused child sex predator being out on bond, the case finally proceeded to trial beginning Oct. 4. Still, despite a jury of his peers finding Albelo guilty of the crime as charged, the deviant is still free to roam the streets as investigators reported the now-convicted pedophile absconded across the Mexican border.

According to information from Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham, Albelo fled the country while the jury was in deliberation.

Information presented in court revealed that Albelo sexually assaulted and impregnated a 13-year-old family friend, the paternity established via DNA in March 2017. In 2019, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office secured indictments against the accused that alleged aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Despite paternity results linking Albelo to the child of the sexually abused child, the accused sex abuser was free on bond while he faced prosecution. During his time on bond, as revealed by Albelo’s extensive online presence, the accused traveled to visit family, enjoyed good times with good friends, and vacationed with a woman who he may have been married to, although he also sang openly on the world wide web with yet another woman as recent as one week before his flight from justice. Albelo also enacted a lawsuit against BP, claiming right to untold fortunes, the proceedings of which are still pending in a Beaumont federal courthouse.

Albelo’s day in court to face child sex crimes wasn’t quick to call, however. When Albelo was set for trial on Oct. 4, the case against him was 1,155 days old – the child he fathered with the child he raped now old enough to attend grade school. Although the case lingered before presentation, once the trail started, it was over quick. By the evening of Oct. 5, the jury was in deliberation of Albelo’s fate.

Albelo wouldn’t stick around to hear the DA’s verdict, though. The prosecution’s office revealed that, by the time the jury returned to the Jefferson County Courthouse the following day, Albelo was already in another country. Camera footage at the International Bridge crossing into Mexico from Laredo allegedly captured Albelo’s vehicle departing the U.S. at about 2:45 a.m. Oct. 6, just hours before a jury returned a verdict finding Albelo guilty of the child sex assault and ultimately setting confinement at 45 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Albelo could have been sentenced to spend up to 99 years, or his natural life, in prison. Instead, Albelo will be eligible for parole after serving half of the adjudicated sentence imposed by the jury – if, or when, he’s ever captured and returned to Texas to do the time for his crime. Wortham said it is not unusual for defendants to flee from prosecution, but the longtime court official couldn’t cite a single instance of a Jefferson County defendant fleeing while awaiting a verdict or sentencing.

“Multiple law enforcement agencies are currently working to locate Dadiel Albelo,” Wortham’s office advised. “Once located and brought back to the United States, Albelo faces additional charges including, but not limited to, state charges of bail jumping and federal charges for flight to avoid confinement after conviction.”
