Child in stable condition after being struck by car

At about 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, Port Arthur police were dispatched to the scene of an accident where a 6-year-old child was struck by a car in the 2000 block of 17th Street, according to a news release.

Upon arrival, officers observed a young child who had sustained life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle. The female victim was transported to a Houston hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition as of 1 p.m. May 19. While the accident is under review by the Advanced Accident Reconstruction Team of the PAPD, officers say their initial investigation revealed the driver was not at fault for the accident.
