The Beaumont City Council is set to vote Tuesday, June 15 on whether to purchase the former AT&T building on Main Street for $2.7 million, according to information from the city.

The city lost property in the area along Riverfront Park during Hurricane Harvey, and city officials say the former AT&T building could be used to expand Riverfront Park. According to the agenda packet for the June 15 meeting, the city could use the property for hike and bike trails, public spaces or other amenities for Beaumont citizens.

Council met to discuss the matter twice in executive session in previous meetings, Tuesday's discussion will be held before the public. According to the agenda, Beaumont City Manager Kyle Hayes could be empowered to sign off on the purchase for $2,785,000, plus associated fees. Hayes previously noted the city has a fund balance of more than $50 million.
