City employees may receive a one-time check for 2% of their base wage after the Beaumont City Council votes on the matter July 13 at its regular meeting.

According to an agenda packet, city council members could vote to approve a measure to spend $1,112,000 on 770 full-time employees and appointed officials. The city would pull from five funding sources, with $790,000 coming from the general fund; $180,000 from the water and sewer fund; $82,000 from the solid waste fund; $18,000 from the hotel tax fund; and $42,000 from the fleet fund.

“Civilian employees last received a 3% increase in October 2019,” according to the packet. Of the city’s 770 employees who would receive the one-time payment, 558 employees earn below $50,000 per year.
