Wondering what life is really like at Lamar University? Prospective students and their families are invited to attend Lamar University’s biggest open house event of the semester with Cardinal View on Saturday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center (4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.).

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the university campus and learn about academic majors, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, student organizations, campus resources and more.

“Cardinal View is extremely important,” said Angela Fanette, director of the LU Welcome Center. “We want everybody to know and understand all of the wonderful things Lamar University can offer to perspective students. Not only in educational resources and degree plans, but also the strong foundation and support services that are available to our students.”

Want to know what to expect at Cardinal View? Guests can take guided campus and residence hall tours; learn about admissions, financial aid and scholarships; meet faculty from more than 60 academic programs; student life; campus and community resources; meet LU admission advisors; grab a free T-shirt as well as enter to win multiple scholarships.

All students who register and attend Cardinal View will receive a free ticket to watch the LU baseball team play UTA Arlington in their first home game of the season at Vincent-Beck Stadium at 5 p.m. Guests will be able to purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $5. The game starts at 5 p.m. at the Vincent-Beck Stadium.

“It’s an opportunity to see every area on campus in a condensed period of time,” said Fanette. “Learn about student organizations, dining, Greek life and recreational sports, too. Any questions you may have, they can be answered at Cardinal View.”

Not only does Fanette work for the university, but she is also an alumnus, who graduated in 2002.

“I feel in love with the campus a long time ago,” said Fanette. “The campus is gorgeous. We offer a true university experience with a hometown, personalized feel. The students are on the forefront of what we do. That energy is very attractive.”
