A contract worker that was working on the Hamshire-Fannett High School campus last month was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury last week on a weapon’s charge related to having his firearm at the campus.

Jan. 18, James Louis Banks, 52, of Pearland, was indicted on a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon in prohibited places for the December 2022 altercation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Dec. 16, 2022, deputies were dispatched to the school for a disturbance involving Banks allegedly pulling a gun on another employee and leaving in a white van marked JM Reed Plumbing.

Chambers County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies detained Banks on Interstate 10 in Baytown until Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies arrived and took the man into custody. CCSO deputies found a 40-caliber handgun and Banks told the deputies he pulled the gun out in self-defense.

Banks bonded out two days later on a $35,000 bond.
