Orange County subscribers to the inmate custody-status site VINElink.com may have received notification that a recently convicted murderer was released from jail custody Sept. 3. However, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office told The Examiner he was simply transferred to the custody of another law enforcement agency.

A VINE message sent at about 8:30 a.m. reads that Yovahnis Roque, 28, was released from OCSO custody Friday morning. Roque was convicted by an Orange County jury last week for the murder of his 2-year-old daughter. Roque was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The sheriff’s office says the “released from custody” message is routine and not what it seems. Such notifications are sent out when an inmate is transferred to the custody of another law enforcement agency, jail or prison. Despite one interpretation that Roque was released from custody and into the public, OCSO staff said Roque is absolutely not a free man.
