STATEMENT FROM BERNIE DALEO:

After prayerful reflection and much deliberation with my family regarding the election process, I have decided not to pursue the open seat for Jefferson County Precinct 1 Commissioner.

Local County governance continues to be my priority, and I remain committed to serving our community for many years to come. At this time, I plan to continue serving Jefferson County as Board Vice President of Jefferson County Drainage District No. 6.
Drainage District 6 has committed its resources to numerous historic drainage
improvement projects for our community and it is my goal to see these, and many more to come, through to completion. For example, The Texas General Land Office recently approved approximately $46.5 million to Drainage District 6’s Corley Diversion Project that will take floodwaters underground from the Fleetwood-Courtwright-Corley areas to the Neches River to provide flood relief in South Beaumont. This project is still in the engineering phase and there is much more work to do before it is completed.

Additionally, Drainage District 6 was awarded an $8.5 million grant to produce a comprehensive plan for the Hillebrandt Bayou, Taylor Bayou, and Pine Island Bayou Watersheds. There has never been a project that deals with all three watersheds. This
will be a guide for future projects, and will also illustrate ways to improve our existing structures. We are halfway through the study. I have more work to do for our community, and look forward to focusing my efforts on the work being done at Drainage District No. 6 to improve our drainage at this time.
