Sometimes a solid opinion needs to be expressed more than once – for those who neglected to heed good advice the first time. Looking back on this editorial 60 days later, a direct correlation has been noted that as vaccination has risen, hospitalizations have declined. Vaccines work; take the shot.

Objections to taking the COVID-19 vaccination vary from person to person. Many say they believe in their constitutional right to not take the vaccine while probably unaware that General George Washington in the war for independence ordered the entire American army to be variolated (vaccination of the time) against smallpox once recognizing the serious threat that it posed to military operations. Most historians now agree that the vaccination program contributed to victory in the War of Independence.

While you may believe it is your right to deny science, do so knowing who and how that right was given to you.

Some quote scripture, or state a belief that the Lord will take care of them, and they are right, He does. The Lord heals using the hands, minds and souls of great doctors and nurses, through scientists and inventors, financers and administrators, who create great vaccines and medicines. It is His work through his servants fulfilling His promise as He “Who heals all your diseases.”

The vaccines are not just developed by man for man, but as a promise by the Lord:

A Psalm of David: “Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits; Who forgiveth all thine iniquity; Who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from the pit; Who encompasseth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thine old age with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle.”

Maybe you haven’t received the vaccine yet because you are a bit hardheaded and have hunkered down and you don’t want to admit that you may have been wrong or misled into not believing in the science. That’s OK, too, as long as you take heed now before anyone else needlessly loses a father, mother, sister or brother. People are dying everyday and more will follow. As our hospitals are filling up, taking care of those who chose to not be vaccinated – even if their lives are saved, how many will die from a heart attack, or asthma attack, or gunshot wound because the ambulance was rerouted to another location and life-saving measures were delayed? This is not a theory or an opinion; it is a fact.

Please, I challenge you to take a new look at the facts from trusted medical professionals in our community – and get vaccinated.
