It is with great sadness that the City of Beaumont Public Health Department (BPHD) is reporting the first COVID-19 related death of a resident in Beaumont, according to a news release.

The gentleman was between the ages of 70-80 years old and had underlying health issues. He had no known travel history.

Beaumont received 4 confirmations of COVID-19 today bringing the total number of cases to 25 (23 in Beaumont and 2 in unincorporated areas of Jefferson County). This data was not included in the six-county coalition's daily report.

The age ranges for today’s confirmations are:

1 between the ages of 40-50

2 between the ages of 60-70

1 between the ages of 70-80

This is an important reminder that COVID-19 is a very serious disease. While 80% of individuals who contract COVID-19 will have mild to moderate symptoms and fully recover, they may spread the disease to people who are at high risk. The elderly and people with underlying health conditions or weakened immune systems are at a much higher risk for developing serious complications from COVID-19. We strongly advise at-risk individuals to minimize contact with others and practice social distancing.
