Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll reported Kaylee Woodward, a 12-year-old Vidor Junior High School student, died from injuries she received in an ATV crash on Sept. 4.

Carroll reported that at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4, the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center was advised of an accident involving a single-vehicle ATV, side by side, near the intersection of South Lakeside and Springdale.

Carroll stated that the vehicle was being operated by a 12-year-old female with three passengers. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to speed causing it to leave the roadway.

The driver was transported by family to Best Med Emergency Clinic in Vidor, then was transported by Acadian Ambulance Service to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Trauma Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Carroll said the investigation is ongoing at this time. Vidor ISD officials said counselors were available when the children returned to school on Sept. 5.
