For allegedly headbutting and repeatedly punching his 66-year-old grandmother after a text about his ex-girlfriend threw him into a fit of rage, a 28-year-old Port Arthur resident was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Feb. 23.

Marcus Lee Cole was playing dominoes with his grandmother when he received texts concerning his ex-girlfriend, according to a probable cause affidavit penned by Beaumont Police Department (BPD) Detective Camalita Snowden. The victim told officers Cole was upset about the messages, becoming agitated and hostile toward his elder.

“He stood up hurriedly, with her believing he was headed to the bathroom,” the affidavit reads. “As the accused approached her, he head-butted her alongside her head as it was turned away from him. She further stated she was knocked down from her chair, with her falling onto the floor on her back.”

Police say Cole then leaned toward her and repeatedly punched her in the face and other areas. The victim suffered an injury to her left eye and felt pain in her upper torso.

As of Feb. 25, Cole was listed on the Jefferson County inmate roster alongside a $75,000 bond.
