Beaumont police reportedly arrested a 37-year-old man at the Gulf Terrace Hike and Bike Trail after he allegedly tried to kidnap a woman.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, at about 9:15 a.m., Beaumont Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the Gulf Terrace Hike and Bike Trail on Dishman Road in reference to an attempted kidnapping of an adult woman. As officers responded to the scene, dispatch advised that the suspect had been contained in the wooded area near the trail. Officers arrived and took the suspect, identified as Jarmond James, into custody.

Special Crimes Detectives responded and interviewed the suspect, victim and witnesses. As a result of the investigation, the suspect was placed under arrest for harassment and transported to the Jefferson County Jail with a mental health hold.

“The Beaumont Police Department would like to remind citizens to always be aware of your surroundings,” BPD wrote. “If you observe suspicious behavior, call police immediately.”

As of press time, James’ name appeared on the Jefferson County inmate roster, alongside a $20,000 bond.
