Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office have been conducting search-and-rescue missions May 17 throughout the county.

Deputies are still out in the Green Acres area on Hwy 124 assisting a few citizens out of their homes and getting them to safety. Many roadways are still holding water and some are impassable as of 4:30 p.m., according to the release. Some residents are just trying to fight off the waves created by passing vehicles and prevent their home from flooding.

"We ask that motorists stay off of the roadways until the water recedes," JCSO officers wrote. "First responders have been responding for stranded motorist assists and wrecks most of the afternoon.  Please be careful and don't get on the roads if at all avoidable. Please monitor your local news media for weather updates.  Don't chance getting flooded into your home or on a dark roadway. You can keep up to date on many road closures through www.drivetexas.org."
