Juvenile suspects run from deadly crash

A 13-year-old female died in an early morning crash on Nov. 20, the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) reported. Four juveniles that were in the vehicle with the teen, Beaumont ISD middle school student Theresa Franklin, have all now been identified after fleeing the scene.

According to police reports, about 4 a.m., BPD officers responded to the 3100 block of Ethan Symone Street concerning an auto burglary in progress and located the suspects fleeing the scene in a 2023 silver Hyundai to the area of Major Drive and IH-10, where the driver lost control and struck a concrete pillar.

According to BPD, four subjects fled on foot from the vehicle. Officers apprehended two juvenile suspects and enacted a lengthy search to locate the other two suspects, who remained on the run until Nov. 21.

At the crash scene, officers found a deceased female juvenile inside the vehicle. Justice of the Peace Ben Collins ordered an autopsy.

Both eastbound and westbound exits were closed at Major Drive and I-10 while BPD investigated the fatality crash.

BPD reported that Nederland PD reported the car stolen at 3:35 a.m. The incident is still under investigation.
