The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded the Friends of Kountze Public Library a $1,498 grant to support summer reading and literacy. The grant is part of the DG Literacy Foundation’s recent award of $10.5 million to support summer, family and adult literacy programs, representing the organization’s largest one-day grant donation in its 29-year history. The project will utilize social media to encourage reading and the check out of eBooks.

In Kountze, volunteers will assist patrons with tutorials on how to access free resources. In addition to the purchase of eBooks for children, “On Board with Summer Reading” offers reading incentives and provides books in homes by sharing free books with all participants.

Each year, the DG Literacy Foundation awards funds to nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a store or distribution center to support literacy programs.
