Local teens arrested for assault, auto theft

An assemblage of law enforcement agencies collaborated to arrest five Jefferson County teenagers allegedly responsible for an aggravated robbery and car theft that occurred in a Seguin Walmart parking lot Sept. 5.

Port Arthur police, along with their counterparts in Port Neches and Seguin, worked together to arrest Caden Dean Shearin, 19; Chase Dean Shearin, 18; JyQuez Turner, 17; Kendrick Raydell Hardwell Jr., 17; as well as an unnamed 16-year-old boy. The teens allegedly traveled approximately 500 miles to Guadalupe County and back on their alleged plundering pilgrimage.

According to the original release from Seguin police, at about 8:46 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, Seguin police officers responded to a robbery that occurred in the Walmart parking lot on Highway 123.

“Upon arrival, officers were advised that five individuals approached the victim’s Dodge Charger, removed the driver (a 16-year-old boy) and passenger (a 15-year-old girl) from the vehicle, and began assaulting the driver,” police reported. “The five suspects then left in the victim’s vehicle.”

Seguin EMS transported the driver to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Further investigation placed the Dodge Charger in the area of Port Arthur. Seguin Police Department Criminal Investigations Division contacted Port Arthur police, which led to the recovery of the victim’s vehicle, and the five suspects being identified and arrested.

On the evening of Sept. 7, PAPD apprehended Hardwell in Port Arthur. Hardwell was transported to Jefferson County jail on a $75,000 bond.

The next night, Port Neches police apprehended Chase Shearin and Caden Shearin. Both teens were transported to Jefferson County jail on $75,000 bonds.

Sept. 9, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies apprehended Turner. Officers transported him to the Jefferson County jail on a $75,000 bond.
