Major accident reported on I-10

Motorists reported a “major” accident where a construction crane fell on a truck and killed two people at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday on I-10 in the area of Smith Road. 

Near mile marker 844, witnesses saw part of a crane crush a 2013 Toyota truck almost beyond recognition. Troopers identified the victims as Friendswood residents Sarfaraz, 37, and Altaf Kasowadia, 42.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to open up traffic at 9:15 p.m. and reported that construction crews in the area were operating a heavy crane when it malfunctioned and struck the truck.
