Man charged with attempted capital murder for shooting at sheriff's officer

The man who shot at an Orange County Sheriff’s vehicle April 1 has been charged with attempted capital murder. Joshua Michael Sykes, 37, sits in the Orange County Correctional Facility on a $100,000 bond.

Around 2 p.m. April 1, the Orange County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a man brandishing a firearm along the 7200 block of Highway 12, according to a news release.

Upon arrival, the suspect fired several rounds, with one striking a sheriff's office vehicle. No one was injured in the mayhem and the Sykes was taken into custody without further incident.
