Man dies fleeing mother of 12-year-old

Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, BPD officers responded to a fatal single vehicle crash at Eastex Freeway and Chinn Lane.

Initial investigation revealed the driver, identified as 27-year-old Beaumont resident Lawrence Malveaux, was fleeing an angry mother who had caught him "trying to make contact" with her 12-year-old daughter. Malveaux crashed during the pursuit.

First responders located a silver Buick GS, driven by Malveaux, with severe front-end damage in the northbound lanes of the construction area. The vehicle caught fire and was quickly engulfed.
