Beaumont United and West Brook high schools choir students participated in the Regional UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition. Thirty-six students earned a gold medal on their solo and qualified for the state contest.

“The number of students advancing to the state contest reveals the truly excellent instruction that our music faculty are providing for our students, both during and after school,” said Michael Murdoch, BISD Director of Fine Arts. “Achievements like this require dedication and focus from both students and staff. Our students are showing the community that they want to achieve a high level of musical performance and are willing to put in the time and effort required.”

Nine Beaumont United and 27 West Brook students will compete at the State UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest this spring in Austin. At least one composition must be performed without pitched accompaniment and all of the compositions may be performed a cappella if indicated as such in the published score.

Murdoch said the state contest is adjudicated by some of the top collegiate faculty from around the nation. “Each student must continue to spend time daily working on their music and focusing on all of the musical details necessary to make each performance really spectacular,” he said. “They must strive to perform at a level far above that of the average high school musician, as that expectation will be present from each judge at the contest.”

“Congratulations to the following students who earned medals and will advance to the state contest,” wrote BISD officials.
