Mom arrested for murdering 6-month-old baby

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) deputies arrested a 22-year-old Lake Charles mom Aug. 15 for murder after officers say her 6-month-old child died in a car she was left inside for approximately five hours.

Monday, Aug. 15, at about 3:45 p.m. a motorist, later identified as 22-year-old mom Ivy L. Lee, flagged down an off-duty CPSO deputy in the area of Enterprise Boulevard and Broad Street in Lake Charles. Lee advised the deputy her 6 month old child was not breathing.

Deputies immediately began performing life-saving measures on the child. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

During the initial investigation, Lee gave detectives two different stories, stating the child had not been in her care. Ivy ultimately advised detectives she drove to her place of employment on Gerstner Memorial Drive in Lake Charles, at which time she left the child in her small SUV, for approximately 5 hours.

A search of the SUV revealed suspected marijuana inside After further investigation, deputies arrested Lee and booked her into the Calcasieu Correctional Center for second-degree murder. Judge Tony Fazzio set her bond at $1,204,000.
