After passing out in the middle of a cash pile on a bathroom floor at Nederland High School March 9, a 17-year-old student with more than three dozen tabs of LSD was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.

According to a June 2 grand jury indictment, Caden Gage Shifflette was charged with possession of a controlled substance, namely lysergic acid diethylamide, in a drug-free zone.

Around 10 a.m. March 9, a Nederland ISD resource officer was informed over radio that an ambulance was en route to the high school in reference to a student who passed out in a bathroom, according to the indictment.

Once on scene, the officer made contact with Principal Natalie Gomez, who revealed that a 17-year-old student fell unconscious with cash scattered around him. Gomez stated she gathered his belongings and took them to her office to later search them. While wearing gloves, Gomez uncovered aluminum foil containing 15 green tabs and 24 red tabs later revealed to be LSD – something to which Shifflette admitted.

Based on the above information, Shifflette was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, a third degree felony.
