For allegedly raping and impregnating his 13-year-old stepsister in 2017, a now-21-year-old Nederland man June 2 was indicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child – his second charge in 2021 for violence against women.

Investigating officers met May 2019 at the Garth House for a forensic interview with a 15-year-old victim, who told them she was sexually assaulted by her stepbrother Jeremiah Micah Prejean, 21, of Nederland. The girl told investigators Prejean raped her when she was 10 years old at a Nederland residence, according to the indictment.

The victim told officers she was raped again by Prejean when she was 13 years old – in 2017 when Prejean was 17– at a separate Nederland residence, and this assault resulted in a child. A buccal swab was gathered from the victim, her child and Prejean, confirming him as the father of his stepsister’s child.

Depicting another alleged display of Prejean’s pugnacity, the man’s name appeared in an indictment from Feb. 10. According to that charging document, just before 3 p.m. Jan. 12, a woman met with officers at the Nederland Police Department to report that she’d been assaulted by her roommate, Jeremiah Prejean. The victim told officers she woke up in Prejean’s bed. Some time later, Prejean became upset that some of his belongings were missing, so he grabbed and held the victim, swinging her around “like a ragdoll.”

The woman could not recall if Prejean punched her, but did remember being slapped, as well as him choking her with both hands and biting her. Prejean allegedly pulled the victim by her hair back into the residence as she tried to escape. Once she was finally able to exit the residence, she set out down the road on foot, only for Prejean to follow in a car. Just as Prejean picked the victim up and tried to put her in the vehicle, an unidentified woman hollered at him to put her down, which he did before the victim walked away from the scene and to the police station.

Officers described the victim to have numerous injuries when they spoke to her in the immediate aftermath of Prejean’s assault. The victim’s left eye was swollen shut, her right arm was swollen and red, she had numerous scratches on her hands and neck and a small laceration on her right forearm. Officers also noted bite marks on her left thumb and palm and left big toe, as well as a knot on the upper left side of her head. The victim appeared to have a few bite marks that had scabbed over, including one on her right forearm and two on her back.

Initially, the woman stated she did not wish to pursue charges against Prejean, but changed her mind. A short time after she was transported to a local medical facility, Prejean came to the NPD station, telling officers he would simply kill the victim if she didn’t press charges. That resulted in his immediate arrest Jan. 12. As of June 7, Prejean’s name was listed among those on the Jefferson County inmate roster with a bond total of $350,000.
