The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), in conjunction with Emergency Service District (ESD) No. 3, received a donation of two lifesaving defibrillators from LyondellBasell.

JCSO Sheriff Zena Stephens met with LyondellBasell representatives Charles Walker, a health, safety and environmental manager; Pedro Rodriguez, site manager; and Quentin Jackson, health, safety and environmental specialist; along with ESD No. 3 Assistant Fire Chief Phillip Kibodeaux and paramedic Daniel Diaz for the presentation.

ESD No. 3 responds to between one and three sudden cardiac arrest calls each month. In the United States, there are roughly 350,000 sudden cardiac arrests annually.

Of the roughly 1,100 square miles making up Jefferson County, residents in the rural areas mainly rely on ESDs for fire and emergency medical services, along with Acadian Ambulance EMS. At times, JCSO deputies are the first to arrive on scene and begin CPR.

“Our community partners at LyondellBasell are also citizens of our community and recognized the need for a rapid response in a dire medical situation,” JCSO reported. “They wanted to provide lifesaving equipment to the citizens of Jefferson County.”
