Officer injured after his own weapon discharged

A Beaumont Police Department (BPD) officer was transported to a local hospital with a minor injury after police say his weapon discharged and struck him in the leg Dec. 16.

According to a BPD news release, officers responded to The Woodlands Apartments on West Cardinal Drive in reference to a disturbance at about 5:49 a.m. Thursday. 

During the encounter, "an officer's weapon discharged, striking him in the leg," reads the release. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that weren't life threatening. BPD is not actively searching for anyone at this time, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
