After stopping a motorist who reportedly committed several traffic violations on Interstate 10 in Rose City May 16, Orange County narcotics detectives arrested a man with a “large” amount of heroin/fentanyl.

According to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) report released May 20, officers arrested Roger Hanks after K9 Officer Rudy detected the drugs.

“Hanks was arrested for possession of a controlled substance,” police stated. “Further evidence was uncovered during the investigation that led the Orange County Narcotics Division to team up with the Combined Anti-Drug Team (CAT) Narcotics Task Force, and they converged on two residences in Vinton, Louisiana, owned by Hanks.”

At these residences, officers located several firearms, large amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine and prescription medications. Officers later discovered that Hanks had reportedly been distributing amounts of heroin, methamphetamine and other drugs to the Orange County area.

“Heroin/fentanyl overdoses are rising in the Southeast Texas area, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is committed to proactively combatting this issue by teaming up with other proactive agencies to diligently fight the war on drugs,” the agency wrote.

Hanks was arrested and booked for possession of a controlled substance, five counts of possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and felon in possession of a concealed weapon.
