The Port Arthur Police Department corrected a news release in reference to a game room robbery, announcing the man they previously alleged responsible actually wasn’t arrested for said robbery.

In reference to the previous press release sent out April 26, Michael Raney Charles, 65, was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility only for outstanding City of Port Arthur warrants. Charles was not booked for the offense of aggravated robbery and is not being investigated for that crime at this time. The aggravated robbery that occurred at 3900 Gulfway Dr. Gold Coin Game Room is still under active investigation.

From the original release:

At about 10:30 a.m., Port Arthur police officers responded to a robbery that just occurred at Golden Coin Game Room on Gulfway Drive, according to a news release.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a black male, identified as 65-year-old Michael Raney Charles, armed with a handgun entered the business and demanded money from a person. At approximately noon the same day, officers located the suspect within a short distance of the game room and took him into custody without incident.

Charles was booked on aggravated robbery charges and outstanding warrants. This incident is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division of PAPD.
