Port Neches officers shot and killed a 21-year-old wanted suspect who fled from law enforcement July 5 in a stolen car before he crashed into a patrol unit, according to a report from the city’s police chief.

Port Neches Police Department (PNPD) Chief Paul Lemoine identified the wanted man as Trevon Hull. Lemoine says the incident began when officers responded to the 2100 block of Merriman at about 7 a.m. July 5 in reference to a suspicious vehicle parked outside a residence.

“Upon arrival they encountered a wanted suspect, who attempted to evade officers in a stolen vehicle and crashed into a patrol unit,” reads the release. “The suspect exited the vehicle with a handgun, at which time officers discharged their firearms at the suspect.”

First responders treated Hull at the scene, but he died from his injuries. PNPD says its officers made it out of the incident free from serious injury.

“The incident is currently being investigated by the Texas Rangers. In accordance with standard protocol, the officers were placed on administrative leave during the investigation,”
Lemoine wrote. “Nothing further.”
