Police find 82-year-old dead in front of Port Arthur game room

Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) officers announced an investigation after finding a body outside a game room in the 1300 block of Ninth Avenue.

According to a release, at approximately 6:38 a.m. on Jan. 27, PAPD officers were dispatched to Ninth Avenue to perform a welfare check on a male subject, later identified as Edward Benton, 82, “sleeping on the sidewalk.”

When officers arrived, they found Benton deceased.

During the investigation, officers obtained surveillance video, and foul play is not suspected. Officers contacted Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam, who ordered an autopsy.
