Volleyball

Bridge City volleyball coach Savanah DeLuna earned her 100th career win as a coach Oct. 7 as the Lady Cardinals defeated LCM to stay undefeated in district.

Golf

Golfer Boe Lowe achieved his third hole-in-one, but his first with a Par 4. Lowe, who was golfing at Bayou Din with buddies Art Rodriguez and Graylin Dallison on Oct. 8, drove his tee shot 373 yards on Hole 6 for the ace.

The STPGA hosted a tournament at Idylwild Golf Club in Sour Lake on Oct. 9. Winners were Colby O’Neal of Beaumont (Boys 13-14, 57 score); Keaton Robertson of DeQuincy, Louisiana (Boys 15-18, 85); and Rolando Laurenzo of Houston (Boys 11-12, 9-hole Red, 43).

CASA of Southeast Texas will host their second annual fundraising golf tournament on Friday, Oct. 28, at Brentwood Country Club at 8 a.m. This 18-hole, four-person scramble is $350 per team. Registration can be done online at casasetx.org or by calling (409) 832-2272.

Lamar Cardinals

Poised to rebound from a tough loss Oct. 7, LU’s soccer team took command of their match by outshooting McNeese 22-4 and scoring a goal in the 66th minute for a 1-0 lead Oct. 9. But, with 5 minutes to go, the Cowgirls would answer back with a goal that equalized the match to a 1-1 draw. LU now sits at 9-1-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Southland Conference play.

Senior Christine Kitaru netted her ninth goal of the season while also leading the Cardinals with five shots

The Cards will travel to Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m.

The LU football team continues to be in utter disarray after losing 56-17 at Incarnate Word on Oct. 8 to fall to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in Southland Conference play.

Their next game will be at home Saturday, Oct. 22, when they host Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m., which will also be Hall of Honor weekend as five former Cardinals will be inducted that morning at 10 a.m. in the Setzer Center Ballroom.

The volleyball team is looking to snap an 8-match losing streak Thursday, Oct. 13, when they host New Orleans at 6 p.m. LU (6-12, 0-7) will also play McNeese at home Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m.

LU softball will continue their fall schedule Friday, Oct. 14, with a doubleheader against Trinity Valley Community College at 3 p.m.   

The women’s tennis team will host the two-day Joe Pyburn Memorial Tournament on Oct. 15-16.

The men’s golf team will return to action Oct. 17-18 at the Little Rock Invitational hosted by Arkansas-Little Rock while the women’s team is idle until Oct. 31-Nov. 1 when they travel to Macon, Georgia, to compete in the
Mercer Invitational.
