Jan. 25, the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) announced it had activated its Catastrophe Incident Response (CAT) Plan to allow TWIA to begin scaling up claim resources and respond quicker to policyholders with losses from the Jan. 24 weather event that barreled through Southeast Texas. By the morning of the announcement, TWIA had already received more than 100 claims, about equally divided between TWIA and Texas FAIR Plan Association (TFPA).

“Most claims reported have come from areas directly in the storm’s path, which spans from the southwest corner of Pearland, up to the beltway, through southern Pasadena, and then through Deer Park and the Houston Ship Channel to Baytown,” TWIA detailed. “We are also starting to see some claims from Jefferson County.”

To file a claim through TWIA, the agency advises visiting its online Claims Center or Policyholder Portal at www.twia.org/claimscenter, or calling (800) 788-8247, option 1.
