Two people suffered injuries from a boating accident on the Neches River in northern Hardin County on June 14.
According to Capt. Ryan Hall of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the accident happened before dark near the entrance to Johns Lake.
Hall said four people were aboard a flat-bottom aluminum boat with a small outboard motor when they apparently struck a tree in the water.
“There are a lot of Cypress trees up there,” Hall added.
He said the boat’s driver was taken by medical helicopter to a local hospital.
Hall said the driver was in serious but stable condition with several fractures. Another passenger suffered a serious leg injury and was also transported to a local hospital.
Hall stated both are expected to make a full recovery.
Two other passengers escaped injuries.
Hall said TPWD is investigating the incident, but no charges have been filed.
“The driver was not responsive, so investigators could not talk to him,” said Hall. “We can’t make a determination either way without a thorough investigation on something like this.”
