West Brook still under lockdown

Although students were seen walking from the West Brook High School campus after police identified a weapon threat, the school was still in lockdown at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, according to a district spokesperson.

Students at Beaumont United High School were released without any reported injuries after threats were identified and subsequently dispatched earlier in the day.

“Currently WBHS is on lockdown due to a bomb threat that was called in at roughly 2 p.m. before dismissal,” read a district release. “Right now, the BISD Police department is working with other agencies that include Beaumont Police, ATF, Fire Marshall, to check buildings to ensure that they are safe which includes the use of weapon detection canines and police staff to clear all areas.”

According to information from the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) Police Department, Chief Joseph Malbrough and his officers were on campus at 3 p.m., assuring parents arriving pickup that their students were safe. 

"Beaumont United administrators received a phone call making a threat against the campus that included a bomb and weapons on school grounds," according to a BISD release. "Campus administrators and the BISD police department immediately responded by initiating a lockdown while BISD police and other local law enforcement agencies BPD, Fire Marshall and ATF assessed the situation."

According to information sent to parents Monday, Beaumont United was on lockdown due to information received regarding a possible threat. Campus police asked parents to avoid the area until later releasing students safely. 

Late Monday morning, Beaumont United administrators received a phone call making a threat against the campus that included a bomb and weapons on school grounds. Campus administrators and the BISD police department immediately responded by initiating a lockdown while BISD police and other local law enforcement agencies BPD, Fire Marshall and ATF assessed the situation. 

"The campus alerted parents via the emergency call-out system advising that the campus was on lockdown and asked parents to avoid the area while the investigation was in progress," read a statement from BISD Spokesperson Hannah Letulle. "Authorities searched in and around the campus and found no threat. Classes will resume as normal for the remainder of the day.

"We take any and all threats made regarding our campuses and students very seriously. As the safety and security of everyone in our buildings is a number one priority. Beaumont ISD Police Officers are continuing to investigate the source of the threat and encourage anyone with information to contact 409-617-7000."
