A Friday report from the Orange Police Department states that a 29-year-old man was beaten near Park Avenue and Mill Street, and the victim left lying on the sidewalk as three men took off in the man's vehicle.

According to the report, Orange police officer C.D. Cowart found the victim lying on the sidewalk, bloody and bruised with visible wounds on his face and forehead. The victim told Cowart a man waved him over for a ride and when he stopped, three men pulled him out of the car, beat him up and drove away.

On Sunday, May 1st, at approximately 4 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was notified by Central Dispatch (Nederland, Port Neches, Groves) that a business owner was following a burglary suspect. The business owner had passed his mini-storage business when he saw two individuals that were burglarizing the units. The business owner notified 911 of the incident and began following these individuals. He continued to give their location as he followed the suspect vehicle.

The city of Beaumont recorded its fourth homicide of the year this weekend and police are looking for leads and are asking for the public's help as they try to solve the murder of 40-year-old Fedro Gatlin.

Sgt. Pat Barton with the BPD's Criminal Investigation Department said police have people in custody in connection with city's other three homicides.

On Sunday, May 1, at 12:30 am., Beaumont police officers responded to a major crash at the intersection of College and Major.

Upon arrival, officers found a '97 Nissan had been struck from the rear by a '08 Dodge pickup. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 23-year-old Amber Hawthorne, daughter of a Jasper County constable and resident of China, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted. She was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth where she died of her injuries.

Five occupants in a house fire were all sent to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries Monday morning after the house they were in caught on fire, according to a press release from the Port Arthur Fire Department.

The one-story house is located in the 2600 block of 31st Street and according to the fire department, the house was engulfed when firefigters arrived, however the fire was under control within 15 minutes.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
