A Port Arthur man with an outstanding warrant for a parole violation was apprehended by Port Arthur Police late Sunday evening after a burglary in the 1300 block of San Augustine Ave.

Inspectors with the city of Beaumont red tagged an electrical job being performed at West Brook High School and filed a report with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, documents obtain by The Examiner Newspaper have confirmed.

The 2011 Brooks Conference will attract about 130 Southeast Texas nonprofit, civic and government leaders – including more than 30 prominent speakers  – to Lamar University Thursday, May 5, for a day-long series of programs on topics ranging from the role of nonprofits in society to substance abuse. Lamar’s Jack Brooks Chair in Government and Public Service will host the conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the John Gray Center.

In last year’s election, three Vidor City Council incumbents were uprooted and replaced with fresh faces in Wards 2, 3 and 5. This election, the remaining three posts are up for grabs, as is the mayoral seat. The only uncontested race will put newcomer Lynda Gaye Courtney in the Ward 1 seat, a post vacated by Don Eicher, who has put in a bid in the mayoral race.
