Dallas man sentenced in half billion dollar Ponzi scheme

BEAUMONT – A federal judge has sentenced a 36-year-old Dallas man in connection with his role in a pair of complex, lucrative oil and gas Ponzi schemes that operated in Michigan and Texas, announced Eastern District of Texas U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Mother plans legal action over son’s suspension

A savage beating caught on an eighth-grade student’s cell phone led to his suspension after he posted it to his Facebook profile, and now Trevion Gaines’ mother is planning to take legal action against Beaumont Independent School District because she feels her son’s First Amendment rights were violated.

Overturned tanker truck closes Interstate 10

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to an overturned tanker truck on Interstate 10 eastbound near Brush Island Road (between Hamshire and Winnie, Texas). The tanker truck was loaded with pure ethanol, which is highly flammable, explosive and can cause respiratory difficulty. The tanker was involved in a one vehicle accident at approximately 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 2. The driver was transported to Baptist Hospital Beaumont.

16-foot ‘Banana’ stolen from Gator Country

Although most people wouldn’t touch a 16-foot python with a 16-foot pole, at least one perpetrator has proved the exception to the rule and has absconded with a 16-foot yellow Burmese Python going by the name “Banana” from Gator Country located at 21159 Hwy. 365.
