Worker killed in accident off High Island

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) confirmed agency personnel responded to a report of a fatality at Energy Resource Technology's High Island (HI) Block A557 Platform A on Aug. 16. The location is an oil and gas production platform approximately 75 miles offshore Texas, in about 224 feet of water.

LU renames Cardinal Village residence halls

Lamar University public relations director Brian Sattler recently announced a name change for the institution - one that would allow the first African American honoree to have a namesake hall in Cardinal Village, along with honoring four others in similar distinguishment.

Black and blue

A 15-year-old incoming freshman student slated to attend Ozen High School is facing possible felony assault charges for punching the West Brook High School cheerleading coach in the face on Aug. 4, according to records from the Beaumont Independent School District Police Department.

The incident occurred inside West Brook’s boys’ gymnasium while a number of student groups, including the cheerleading squad being led by Cara Robinson, were practicing for an upcoming pep-rally.

PA records third homicide in a week

In what has become a murderous week for Port Arthur detectives, detectives are working on the city's seventh homicide of the year and the third since last Saturday after police discovered Quanita Benjamin shot to death in the 400 block of Duane.

However, according to a source close to the investigation, it appears the shooting may have been accidental, but police are continuing to investigate.
