Port Neches Police Department officers turned on their red and blue lights

Sept. 4, 2015, at 11 a.m., Port Neches Police Department officers turned on their red and blue lights for one minute in response to the governor's statewide call to stand with law enforcement and in honor of the line-of-duty death of Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth.

Beaumont police are investigating a stabbing that occurred in a restroom stall at Tyrrell Park on Sept. 10, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

UPDATE: A jury of seven men and five women in Judge John Stevens' court today sentenced Rockline George Kennedy, 65, to 18 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the Jan. 26 intoxication manslaughter of 18-year-old Nederland High School student Kristin Paris.

Paris's family addressed Kennedy directly at the sentencing. Her father said, "I think you are the biggest piece of s**t I have ever met in my life, and I hope you die."

Living to see 100 years of history is a milestone not everyone gets to experience, but several centenarians right in Beaumont have reached or are quickly approaching 100 years in age – and they were honored Aug. 24 with a birthday bash.


Beaumont Independent School District spokesperson Ron Reynolds reports that Back-to-School season in the district has been a success, with enrollment increasing daily and teacher vacancies dwindling. According to Reynolds, on the first day of classes, 18,073 students showed up to campuses throughout the district – a number that has swelled to 19,233 a little more than two weeks into the semester.
