For folks that are going to be out and about and drinking over Spring Break in Jefferson County, they need to find a designated driver for their safety and for everyone else out on the roadways.

And it’s not just a safety issue either, because the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will be adding extra deputies to patrol Jefferson County roads starting Saturday, March 12 through Saturday, March 19thas part of an increased effort to find impaired drivers and get them off the road during Spring Break week.

The pastor of an Orange County church pleaded guilty to social security fraud Wednesday, March 9. The Rev. Raymond Charles Young, 38, of Orange, pleaded guilty to fraudulent receipt of social security benefits.

At the city of Orange’s Jan. 25 meeting, elected leaders were bombarded by pleas from several residents to make a 3.5 mile stretch of the city a designated “quiet zone” for train horns. And, although council representatives were prohibited by law from responding to the comments, city staffers indicated the proposal was already being explored. On March 8, an answer to the citizen plights was given in the form of a quiet zone that spans an area from Main Avenue to Cordrey Avenue and shutting off W. John Avenue, W. Orange Avenue and W. Pine Avenue crossings.

On Sunday, March 6,  at 5 p.m., Beaumont police officers were sent to investigate a reported assault at Parkdale Mall near the food court.
