On Wednesday, June 15, at 9:45 p.m.,  Beaumont police officers were called out to Washington Boulevard in reference to a robbery that had just taken place.

Dispatch told responding officers a shot had been fired, and  the suspects were reported to be armed with a pistol and a shotgun. A K-9 handler assisted with the investigation and got information that led to the suspects.

Copies of secret settlement documents obtained by The Examiner from the Beaumont Independent School District show Superintendent Carrol Thomas has for years violated district policy by failing to seek approval from the Board of Trustees to pay several hundred thousand dollars in taxpayer money to settle lawsuits and legal complaints with parents and others complaining primarily about the district’s special education program.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was called out in reference to a missing person Monday evening, June 14, near the Jefferson County Remote Aircraft Field located off Highway 347. Officers were searching for 56-year-old Stephen Shoemaker, of Port Arthur, at the time. He was last seen at the airfield looking for a remote airplane that had crashed in the nearby woods and when he did not return home, a search was started.

Winners of the Press Club of Southeast Texas' 20th annual Newsmaker of the Year and Excellence in the Media awards were announced Friday, June 3 at the annual media banquet. This year's banquet also featured the Newsmaker of the Decade award. For 2010 Newsmaker of the Year, Mike Getz was honored for his work in passing a Beaumont Independent School District petition to include a referendum on the May 2011 ballot to change the BISD board's electoral system from seven single-member districts to five single districts with two at-large positions.

Shortly after midnight Friday, June 3, Beaumont police detectives received information that two capital murder suspects wanted in Frisco may be in the city. Detective acted immediately and went to a home in the 5700 block of Falcon where a vehicle registered to one of the suspects was seen in the driveway. The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Raymond Anthony Washington and17-year-old Daniel James Ramsour, both of McKinney were wanted as suspects for the shooting death of 30-year-old Andre Currier in front of a Wal-Mart in Frisco two days earlier.
